Youth Visual Arts Program
Youth Visual Arts Program focuses on developing students’ ability to communicate through creating and presenting/performing works in the arts and to communicate their thoughts and feelings about works in the arts. Students’ demonstration of understanding of the knowledge and skills will occur through active participation in the various arts in hands-on, age-appropriate ways.
YVAP-Primary (age 6-8)
The children will have a joyful exploration at this stage! They are developed their creating through practicing and applying the creative process, their reflecting, responding and analyzing through practicing and applying the critical analysis process, their understanding of the fundamental concepts through learning the elements and principles of art, their technical skills through exploring a variety of art forms consist of drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and etching in a variety of mediums. Particularly the development of their feeling, imagining and storytelling will be put as the first priority.
YVAP-Junior (age 9-11)
The students will extend exploration of relationships and personal experience at this stage. They are developed their creating through practicing and applying the creative process, their reflecting, responding and analyzing through practicing and applying the critical analysis process, their deeper understanding of the fundamental concepts through learning the elements and principles of art, their technical skills through exploring a variety of art forms consist of drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and printmaking in a variety of mediums. They will have the chance to be guided to observe, care and present the real world around them.
YVAP-Intermediate (G7-8)
The students will develop their technical competence and distinctive personal style at this stage. They will develop mature presentation and critique skills applying the Creative Process and the Critical Analysis Process. They will be enhanced to develop the presenting skills applying their understanding of fundamental concepts and medium techniques. They will accumulate their personal productions in a variety of form connecting their concerns about the life and society. They will develop a deeper exploration on some specific area like figure and plein air presenting. They will be naturally competent to be an art high school student if they want.
YVAP-Senior (G9+)
The students will continue developing their art foundations, presenting skills as well as creative and critical thinkings. They will personally research the preferred programs in the universities to make their effort targeted. Meanwhile, they will keep producing personal artworks in a variety of forms to fill in their portfolios for their own life and the potential application for the universities when they graduate from their high school. Growth happens in a period of time but not a moment at the end.
